BreezeCOM and TELECEL S.A. Expand High-Speed Internet Connectivity and Wireless Data Services into Paraguay

Flexible, Low-Cost Solution Drives Growth of Latin American Wireless Market

TEL AVIV, Israel, CARLSBAD, CA, January 10, 2001 – BreezeCOM (NASDAQ: BRZE), a leader in the design and manufacture of high-speed wireless access solutions, and Telecel S.A. from Paraguay, a subsidiary of Millicom International Cellular Corporation (NASDAQ: MICC), have announced the successful launch of wireless data services in Paraguay. In association with a 1999 frame agreement signed by BreezeCOM and Millicom International, this announcement validates Millicom’s continuing expansion of wireless data services and on going plans to deploy high-speed wireless Internet networks throughout Latin America.
Telecel is the largest cellular operator in Paraguay and currently services a subscriber base of more than 400,000. Deploying BreezeCOM’s wireless Internet technology, this venture follows successful trials and system implementation by BreezeCOM and Millicom in other countries last year.
Millicom employs BreezeCOM’s BreezeACCESS? 3.5 system, which offers an advanced IP-based high speed, broadband wireless access solution for data and voice communications. Initial deployment has begun in all major Paraguayan cities including Asuncion, Ciudad del Este and Encarnacion, with plans to provide services to rural areas as well. Ultimately, the system will be installed on Telecel’s cellular sites that cover all of Paraguay.

“BreezeCOM’s wireless technology complemented our existing cellular infrastructure,” stated Ever Zalazar, Engineer in charge of the implementation at Telecel. “It provided a flexible and cost-effective solution that was easy to install and quick to deploy – extremely important in Paraguay, which is in urgent need of high-speed data services. By adding wireless services to our existing cellular network, we became the first company to offer and deploy high speed-data networks in Paraguay.”
The flexibility of BreezeCOM products provides an efficient and cost-effective solution to cellular operators looking to enhance or expand their current service offering. Its rich feature set and robust performance make it the ideal solution for supporting major network deployments. BreezeCOM enables operators to capitalize on their existing cellular system and infrastructure – dramatically reducing deployment issues and associated costs. It is an excellent fit for deploying new infrastructure, as was the case in Argentina, as well as when expanding existing networks, as in Paraguay.
“Millicom is using our high-speed wireless technology to enhance its communications infrastructure in South America, which will provide a major boost to the entire cellular market in the region,” said Pablo Brenner, BreezeCOM vice president of Latin America. “Our BreezeACCESS product line was a perfect fit with the cellular network system Telecel already had in place making it an efficient and cost-effective way for Millicom to quickly deliver high-speed wireless services to the region.”
