Technological developments coupled with operator and subscriber demands mean that Mobile WiMAX networks must be extremely sophisticated and efficient in order to deal with complex network conditions. Alvarion’s Dynamic Rate Adaptation feature is another example of the company’s efforts to lead the market with intelligent solutions that facilitate superior Mobile WiMAX networks. Providing QoS and 40-90% gain for very low latency applications, and more than 200% gain for data applications (in comparison to non-self-learning modules), Dynamic Rate Adaptation offers the optimal performance - irrespective of channel type and modem implementation – and minimization of interference levels that operators and subscribers are demanding.
Rate fixed to meet typical conditions
Rate adapted to maximize utilization of available conditions
Alvarion’s Dynamic Rate Adaptation feature offers:
- Quick tracking of channel condition changes, similar in speed to PHY-state-oriented rate adaptation.
- Guaranteeing of PER levels similar to QoS-oriented rate adaptation, but with a much faster reaction time and better PER guarantee mechanism, thereby providing superior QoS.
- Elimination of the necessity for predefined margins for worst case conditions, thereby enabling maximization of channel throughput and learning/adaptation to actual conditions.
- Tailoring of rate selection for each connection e.g., a voice connection with low latency targets can receive a different rate to file download applications with no latency requirements but with lower PER requirements.
