Title: Customer Support Engineer

Location: South Africa

Description:
The Customer Support Engineer is responsible for a range of activities, including:

  • Primary technical support on highly complex systems as well as configuration of business-rule flow issues
  • Providing general technological support services for major accounts in a timely manner and within Alvarion guidelines
  • On-site support for field engineering, trials, network migration activities, upgrades, commissioning, ATP tests, OJT (On Job Training) and formal Alvarion training
  • Back office support for other team members
Requirements:
  • At least 2 years experience working in a service-oriented position in an international telecommunications or data communications company
  • Excellent sense of customer service and problem solving
  • In-depth knowledge of computer communications, LAN, core protocols (TCP/IP, experience with routing protocols, multicast, layer 2 switching, layer 3 routing, MPLS, QOS, VPN, Ethernet, ATM, ISDN, V.5.2, SIP, H323, SNMP, SS7, Radius, DHCP, WiMAX, WiFi)
  • Understanding of radio systems, radio modulations (FM, GFSK, OFDM etc.), antennas and measuring equipment for computers and radio systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications, ability to write reports and technical documentation
  • Cisco, Juniper-certified (advantageous)
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both face-to-face and on the phone)
  • Willing to travel to Africa 25% of the time
