Alvarion’s Wi-Fi Network Solution to Grant Hi-Speed Internet Access to Numerous Higher Learning Institutions Across Rwanda

The powerful Wi-Fi network was deployed by Balton CP as part of the ongoing Rwanda Board of Development initiative to transform Rwanda through Information Technologies

Alvarion Technologies, a global provider of wireless solutions including Wi-Fi, Point-to-point and Point-to-Multi-point, announced today that Balton CP has deployed Alvarion’s hi-speed Wi-Fi solution in over 15 private and public higher learning institutions throughout Rwanda. The project, funded through the Rwanda Board of Development (RBD), is granting tens of thousands of students and teachers ubiquitous access to high-speed Internet and intranet services via any connected device including PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphones and other terminals.

The Alvarion Wi-Fi solution, designed for university and school campuses, is Alvarion’s latest version 2.0 of its complete Wi-Fi network package, which combines superior-grade performance and unlimited scalability and is mesh enabled for superior coverage. The network provides high-speed and secure connectivity throughout each institution’s campus and in some cases across multiple campus locations with optimal connectivity and coverage both indoors and outdoors. University Wi-Fi connectivity is proven to facilitate higher student engagement, deeper and more complex learning, and improved performance on state standards and benchmarks.

“The comprehensiveness of the Alvarion solution, and its proven competence in providing reliable high-speed connectivity across campuses worldwide, were our determining factors in choosing this trusted vendor”, said Omar Nkundabagenzi, Balton Rwanda Head of Communications. “The fact that we could deploy a highly cost-effective and scalable solution, with optimal QoS for applications required by university campuses such as video streaming was an added value benefit that we were familiar with from our rich experience with Alvarion Technologies solutions.”

The driver behind the project, RBD, has been actively investing in the growth of an ICT-based economy throughout Rwanda’s many provinces over the past decade and the results are evident. Rwanda now stands at the forefront of Africa’s growing incline of digitally literate countries, with OECD comparable investments in technology leading its growth.

“We are thrilled to be an active player in this fast-growing arena and excited to see our solutions making a true difference in moving Rwanda forward. Known for their large areas and numerous scattered buildings, university campuses, are prime candidates for smooth wireless incorporation and an excellent starting point for enhancing connectivity in Africa and supporting its progress.," commented Giora Levi, Alvarion Technologies CEO.
