The firm and Hitachi also displayed a WiMAX solution tailored to Japan at CTIA.
Alvarion Ltd. has signed a master supply agreement with Caribbean mobile operator Digicel Group. Alvarion will deploy a WiMAX network throughout the Caribbean region in a major initiative over the next few years, following a successful commercial deployment of its WiMAX solution in Grand Cayman in 2007. The company did not disclose the size of the contract.
Alvarion and its Open WiMAX partners will provide an end-to-end WiMAX offering based on Alvarion’s Mobile WiMAX solution, as well as a comprehensive package of professional services.
In a separate development, Alvarion and Hitachi Communication Technologies are demonstrating their joint Mobile WiMAX solution, tailored to the unique needs of the Japanese market, at CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas. Hitachi was selected by UQ Communications Inc. to provide its access service network gateway for Mobile WiMAX and integrated operation maintenance system, and is expected to provide Japan’s first commercial system.
Alvarion fell 6.7% on Nasdaq yesterday and is down 6% in morning trading on the TASE, after the Australian federal government cancelled its countrywide wireless broadband project.
