Alvarion gains mobile WiMAX certification
Globes
Alvarion Ltd has obtained certification for its 802.16e BreezeMAX 2.5 Gigahertz base station from the WiMAX Forum. The company is one of the first four base station vendors to receive the certification, together with Motorola Corp., Samsung Corp., and Sequans Communications Inc.
Alvarion president and CEO Tzvika Friedman said, “Being one of the first few vendors to achieve Mobile WiMAX Wave 2, 2.5 GHz certification, further demonstrates our leadership position in the WiMAX industry."
In a separate development today, Alvarion announced that the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute Campus (ITRI) has successfully completed a trial of the company's 4Motion solution and 802.16e BreezeMAX RAN (radio access network) platform for VoIP, video streaming, IPTV and document exchange applications. Taiwan's government selected the WiMAX technology for executing its M-Taiwan national program. Six companies won licenses and Alvarion is expected to work with at least one of two of them.
ITRI and the WiMAX Forum established the M-Taiwan WiMAX Application Lab (MTWAL) - a proof-of-concept lab - for the purpose of testing and developing innovative Mobile WiMAX applications. Alvarion was selected as the sole supplier of WiMAX equipment for the lab because it was the only vendor able to meet ITRI’s timeline and requirements for Mobile WiMAX equipment.
