Alvarion’s Solutions For State And City Broadband Networks Now Available To GSA Buyers

Wireless Broadband Products Easier, More Cost-Effective to Procure for High-Bandwidth Applications

Carlsbad, Calif. – March 9, 2004 – Alvarion, the leading provider of wireless broadband solutions worldwide, today announced that it has been awarded a General Services Administration (GSA) schedule, under GSA contract number GS-35F-0046P, for use in supplying broadband equipment to government buyers. The GSA listing allows U.S. federal, state and local agencies to procure and deploy Alvarion’s carrier-class solutions for area and region-wide wireless broadband and public safety networks without lengthy RFP and contract negotiation processes.

Currently, Alvarion’s solutions are deployed with multiple U.S. and international government and public safety agencies. These organizations use Alvarion’s products as a cost-effective and highly secure method to deliver two-way video, graphic files (such as mug shots, photos, maps and blueprints) and other communications to officials in real time, even to mobile users in the field. For example, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department uses Alvarion wireless broadband solutions as economical and secure means to connect the department’s six hundred deputy vehicles at high-speed while they are on patrol, linking them to critical information and office applications.

As well, Alvarion’s high-capacity, non-line-of-sight fixed systems have been used by local governments to replace expensive leased lines and gain network control of capacity and growth while also providing federally-approved AES security. For example, York County, Pa. linked approximately 40 area schools and other municipal buildings with ten times the capacity of their former leased lines, but at a fraction of the cost. And as a leading vendor supporting next-generation WiMAX-based products, Alvarion offers an effective migration path for GSA buyers towards ubiquitous broadband connectivity and roaming.

“Alvarion’s wireless broadband products are proven solutions that support a wide range of critical applications, including primary and back-up broadband connectivity to government and non-profit organizations for internet access and LAN to LAN communications, city-wide video surveillance systems, and broadband mobile networking for law enforcement and other public safety agencies,” said Amir Rosenzweig, president of Alvarion Inc. “Our global leadership in providing metro-area broadband networks makes our products ideal for combined broadband and homeland security implementations spanning entire cities and regions.”
