Alvarion, Ltd. Provides Shengli Oilfield with BreezeNET Equipment for Wireless Bridging Application in the 2.4GHz Unlicensed Band

Tel Aviv, Israel, October 29, 2002 – Alvarion, Ltd. today announced that it is providing Chinese petroleum company Shengli Oilfield with its BreezeNETÔ wireless broadband solution for the 2.4 GHz unlicensed band. Shengli, China’s second largest state-owned petroleum company, had already developed a comprehensive communications infrastructure for enabling information sharing across its entire operation, which helps the company to maintain efficient production at peak performance levels. But it was looking to augment its existing communications network by extending high performance communications services to last mile points-of-presence throughout its oilfields, covering every unit of prospecting, production, R&D and administration in the company’s vast operation.

Shengli was an ideal candidate for the deployment of a wireless network because the rough terrain of the Chinese oil fields degrades the conductivity of cable laid underground, and may even cause significant safety threats. And with offshore platforms, data and information transmission is usually difficult due to the wide area of water that must be traversed. As such, the deployment of a fiber infrastructure presents a costly and logistically formidable challenge. But wireless networking technology, costing a fraction of fiber, provides oilfield operators with a highly efficient and easy deployable communications solution.
