Telkom South Africa Selects InnoWave to Supply Fixed Wireless Access Solutions

PETAH TIKVA, ISRAEL, February 25, 2002 -InnoWave ECI Wireless Systems Ltd., (InnoWave), a global leader of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solutions and an ECI Telecom company (NASDAQ/NM symbol: ECIL), was chosen by Telkom South Africa Ltd. to provide fixed wireless access telecommunications services throughout South Africa.

Under the supply frame agreement, signed between Telkom SA and Grintek Telecom, InnoWave's regional distribution partner, InnoWave’s flagship MultiGain Wireless (MGW) fixed wireless access system will be deployed across South Africa and will operate in the 1.9GHz frequency band.

“We selected the MGW system as a fixed wireless solution for the modernization of the Telkom access network, to help meet service level targets, as well as to offer advanced telecommunications services via radio link to our customers,” says Telkom South Africa’s Project Manager, Andrew Groves.

According to Srini Moodley, Grintek Telecom’s business development manager for WLL, Telkom SA conducted a stringent evaluation and approval process of the MGW system. “We are looking forward to implementing this project,” he says. “We are confident our relationship with Telkom SA will continue to grow as we offer additional access solutions.”

Fixed Wireless Access systems utilize radio links instead of copper telephone lines and provide the Last Mile connection between individual subscribers and telecommunications service provider’s main network.

InnoWave's MGW solution supports a wide range of frequency bands ranging from 1.5 to 3.8GHz. The Frequency Hopping CDMA technology used in the MultiGain Wireless system is designed to meet the specific requirements of radio in the Local Loop. The InnoWave MGW system supports toll quality voice, high-speed voice band data (V.90) and ISDN-BRI.
