Alvarion Receives Follow-on Order from Dedicado, Uruguay Wireless Operator
Dedicado to expand network using Alvarion’s BreezeAccess and WALKair products Alvarion Ltd. (NASDAQ: ALVR), a leading provider of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) solutions, today announced the receipt of a follow-on order for additional BreezeAccess base stations in the 3.5GHz band from Dedicado, a major broadband communications service provider in Uruguay. The order follows Dedicado’s successful deployment of a wireless network based on Alvarion products in Uruguay.
In May, Dedicado launched commercial wireless services in the 3.5 GHz frequency band targeting business and residential customers. Alvarion’s advanced BreezeAccess BWA technology enables Dedicado to provide always-on, high-quality Internet access at guaranteed data rates of 64, 128, or 256 kbits per second, as well as Virtual Private Network (VPN) support, all for fixed monthly rates. Dedicado also has a license in the 10.5GHz frequency band, in which it has deployed Alvarion’s WALKair systems. Dedicado will use the new BreezeAccess base stations to expand its network coverage to additional cities throughout Uruguay.
Commenting on the news, Arturo Vargas, CEO of Dedicado, said, “In Uruguay, the high price of local telephone calls has constrained more widespread usage of the Internet. Dedicado’s goal is to bring reasonably priced, fixed-rate broadband connectivity within the means of a much larger portion of Uruguay’s entire business and residential community, bringing Uruguay into the digital age.
“Alvarion’s advanced wireless technology is critical in helping us achieve our goal. Alvarion systems are cost-effective and quick to deploy in areas with no existing telecom infrastructure, enabling us to offer advanced services at attractive subscription rates. As a result, we have installed 1,000 users in just 4 months – well beyond our original forecast -- and continue to experience growing demand.”
Amnon Yacoby, co-CEO of Alvarion, added, “Dedicado’s success demonstrates that Alvarion’s BWA systems are an ideal solution for Latin American markets. It also shows that operators are interested in using both our BreezeAccess and WALKair product. To take full advantage of the opportunities in Latin America, we are intensifying the activities of our Uruguay and Brazil sales offices, and ramping up operations in our new regional office in Miami.”
