BreezeCOM and StarCom Partner to Expand Broadband Services in Indonesia
Broadband Wireless Access to Service Fifty Cities by 2002 TEL AVIV, Israel / CARLSBAD, Calif. - BreezeCOM (NASDAQ: BRZE), a leader in the design and manufacture of high?speed wireless access solutions and PT. Starcom Solusindo "StarCom", a licensed operator providing high-speed multimedia services, have announced the successful launch of wireless multimedia services in Indonesia. StarCom, in partnership with PT. Texascom Hitek System, a BreezeCOM local distributor and systems integrator, will bring affordable broadband services to a vast and growing Indonesian market. Commencing in Jakarta, StarCom is rolling-out broadband wireless services employing BreezeCOM's BreezeACCESS XL equipment. StarCom plans to rapidly deploy its network in ten additional cities by the year-end, for a total of 50 cities by 2002.
Indonesian industry surveys forecast robust market growth for IT products and services despite poor political and economic conditions, particularly for technology that enables Internet access. With a population of over 207 million people, Indonesia has 6.6 million fixed lines and 2.5 million Internet subscribers.
"In view of the huge market potential and inadequate availability, quality, and capacity of communications infrastructure, fixed broadband wireless will increasingly become a key feature of the Indonesian access landscape. We chose BreezeACCESS due to its superior performance and ease of installation, which will enable us to rapidly build-out our wireless infrastructure," said Kurnia Tugiono, chief executive officer for StarCom.
"The StarCom project in Indonesia represents an important step toward increased availability of our products in a vast and virtually untapped market," stated Oded Milstein, managing director for BreezeCOM Hong Kong Ltd. "We are confident that the access to our technology will contribute significant improvements to Indonesia's communication market and will allow them to serve as a model for other countries that are currently technologically underdeveloped."
